Multiple Teams · Athletes of the Month


Congratulations to our Student-Athletes of the Month for August.  These Student-Athletes were nominated and selected by there coaches and Administration.  They have done a great job representing Northridge High and there respective teams.  Good Job Knights and Good Luck the rest of the Season.

Cross Country- Hyrum Johnson and Natalie Behmer

Natalie is a Junior this year she just moved here this summer from Las Vegas.

Coach Rawlings had this to say about Natalie “Natalie is a senior on the Girls Cross Country team and has a played a large roll in the success of our girls team thus far in the season. In the past, Northridge has struggled to put together a full girls varsity team. Our girls team this season is well on their way to putting together a great season. These efforts are being led by Natalie and other incredibly talented girls who deserve being mentioned as well. Regan Abbott is a senior on the team and you can typically see her, Natalie, and sophomore Maddie Wojtech leading the charge for Northridge in any race. Natalie transferred to Northridge from Las Vegas over the summer and was able to immediately integrate herself with the girls on the team and assume a leadership role. At the Weber State Invite, Natalie ran the 3 mile course with a time of 20:43 leading our girls to place 13th overall out of 50 schools. At the Murray Invite, Natalie ran a season best 19:44. We couldn’t be more proud and grateful to have Natalie on our team.”

When asked why she does cross country Natalie had this to say “I enjoy running and it as always super fun. Running is a way for me to relieve stress.”  Her role model is her Mom because she always ran cross country and she wants to be like her.  After high school Natalie wants to run cross country and track on college, after that she is not sure.  Her favorite subject is Math, favorite food is pasta and favorite movie is End Game.

 

Hyrum is a Senior this year and has participated in cross country for 3 years.

Coach Rawlings had this to say about Hyrum “Hyrum is a senior on the Boys Cross Country team and has emerged as a great leader. Last year, we had some great senior runners so even though Hyrum was one of our top runners, his leadership was not needed like it is this year. Now, Hyrum is our top runner and has some high goals for the region and state championships. He has already put together an impressive resume this year by winning our first meet at Weber High and placing very high at the Weber State and Murray Invitationals. At Weber State, Hyrum finished 13th against runners from 50 different schools with a time of 15:55 on a 3 mile course. At Murray, he finished 17th overall with a time 15:13 on a 3 mile course against runners from 56 different schools. As a team, we are very proud of Hyrum and celebrate all of his successes.”

When asked why he ran cross country Hyrum had this to say “Competing against so many other people and the satisfaction of winning races.”  He has two role models Steve Prefontaine and Ryan Hall.  After high school Hyrum wants to run in college.  His favorite subject is math, favorite food is sushi, favorite song is goodbyes by Post Malone and favorite movie is End Game.

Golf- Brek Schenck

Brek is a Senoir this year and played golf all 4 years here at Northridge.

Coach Poll had this to say about Brek “Brek has been the leader of the team all season. Not only is he our top scorer this year but he is my hardest worker. He is always working on his game and encouraging others to do the same. If all of my golfers had the love of the game that Brek has we would be competing for the State Championship every year!”

When asked why he played golf Brek had this to say “I play golf because you can never expect how your going to play.  Its a game where everything can go right or not and when its right it brings me back for more.”  His role models are both his grandpa’s, they are the reason he started playing golf and have taught him everything he knows.  After high school Brek wants to play golf in college.  His favorite subject is science, favorite food grilled chicken, favorite music is country and favorite movie is Happy Gilmore.

Football- Diesel Freeman

Diesel is a Senior this year and has played football all 3 years.

Coach Mitchell had this to say about Diesel “Diesel has come up big in this first part of the season for us.  In our first game he had a kick return for a touchdown, and in our second game he had a interception return for a touchdown.  He has been a key player for us on defense and special teams.  He leads by example and works hard at practice.”

When asked why he played football Diesel had this to say “I love football and Friday night lights, and I have awesome coaches.”  His role model is his dad because he played football here at Northridge and told him about all the great memories he had playing for the Knights.  After high school Diesel wants to attend college and work with his dad.  His favorite subject is sports classes, favorite food is burgers, favorite movie is Hacksaw Ridge.

Tennis- Aimee Chambers

Aimee is a Senior and has been on the Tennis team for 3 years.

Coach Barb had this to say about Aimee “Aimee has been one of our most consistent and hard workers all year.  In one match against Roy it went 4 hours and she stayed patient and pulled out the win.  She has worked had this off-season to improve her game.  She is a great leader for our team.”

When asked why she played tennis Aimee had this to say “My mom encouraged me to do it and I honestly did it for the tan and to stay in shape.”  She stated that Simond Halep was a role model because she controls her anger and Bianca Andreescu because she is 19 and does her best.  After high school Aimee wants to go to USU and high jump while studying Psychology and serve an LDS mission.  Her favorite subject is science, favorite food is pasta, favorite music is country and favorite movie is A Quiet Place.

Soccer- Tiani Fonoti

Tiani is a Senior this year and has played for 3 years (Freshman, Sophomore, Senior).

Coach Kennah had this to say about Tiani “It has been great to have Tiani back on our team. She has had a great attitude and has worked extremely hard for us this year. Tiani has battled and been a great leader for our club. She has a great smile and laugh. The coaches appreciate and respect the work and dedication she is putting into this building up the team this season. We are glad she is a member of our squad and can’t wait to see what Tiani and the rest of the soccer team will accomplish this year.”

When asked why she plays soccer Tiani had this to say “it gives me joy and something to have fun with while also being myself.  I love soccer because it’s competitive and just overall a thrill.  I cant go a day without playing soccer, without soccer its like a piece of me is gone.  Soccer is my love and passion.”  When asked who her role model was she said Carli Lloyd and of course my family.  She said Carli Lloyd is an amazing leader and example.  Her family pushes her to be her best and always succeed in life. After high school Tiani plans on attending either Seattle University or South Dakota State University to play soccer and become an orthopedic surgeon. Her favorite subject is math and english, favorite food pasta and Hawaiian food, favorite song Baby by Justin Beiber and favorite movie is Monsters Inc.

Volleyball- Maikalani Kalauli

 Maikalani is a Senior and has played volleyball for 3 years at Northridge.

Coach Barker had this to say about Maikalani “Maika is a hard worker on and off the court. She worked hard and pushed her teammates through our preseason and she is excited to see where our team goes as we start region. Maika was named as one of our team captains, and fills the role very well by making our practices intense and competitive, and leading by example to those around her.”

When asked why she played volleyball Maikalani had this to say “I play volleyball because I love the competition.  Me and my older sisters always compete with each other which pushes me to become better.  I love making my team and family happy.”  Her role models are her Aunts Nani, Joann and Nathele.  All of them have been a huge support to her and giving her advice  for on the court and off.  After high school Maikalani plans to serve an LDS mission and then attend either Utah State or Dixie State.  Her favorite subject is health, favorite food is Hawaiian food, favorite song is Wings by Earthgang and favorite movie is Monsters Inc.
