Multiple Teams · December Athletes of the Month


CONGRATULATIONS to our December Athletes of the Month- Abby Petersen (Cheer), Josh Potter (Boys Swimming), Colby Browning (Boys Basketball), Hunter Swalberg (Wrestling), Jalyne Stott (Girls Basketball), Courtney Eberlan (Girls Swimming) & Brielle Ercanbrack ( Drill).

Abby Petersen Cheer

Abby is a Sophomore on the Cheer Squad this year.  She is also a member of the Girls Basketball team.  This is what Coach McCord had to say about Abby: “Not only is she an amazing cheerleader, she is also a member of the NHS girls basketball team. She has a 3.95 GPA while also taking honors courses. Abby is an all-around athlete who adapts easily to change and high pressure situations. She is a wonderful representative for both teams as shes has a positive attitude and shows great leadership to her teammates”.  Abby said that her reason “WHY” for dong Cheer is “I love the challenge that it brings me”.  Abby’s Role model is her sister because she works and tries her hardest in everything that she does.  After high school Abby wants to attend college and then get a a job.  Her Favorite subject is Math and she loves Tacos.

Josh Potter Swimming

Josh is a Senior on this years swim team and is also a Captain.  Josh says that his reason “WHY” for swimming is “I love it and it helps get me into great shape for Water Polo”.  His role model is his Mom who swam all through College.  After high school Josh plans on serving an LDS mission and then attending college when he returns.  His favorite subject is school is Math.  He loves Navajo Tacos.  His favorite song is Hotel California by the Eagles and favorite movies are the Star Wars ones.

Colby Browning Basketball

Colby is a Senior on this years Basketball team.  He is currently averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game in December.    Coach Olson had this to say about Colby “Not only is Colby consistent in production, he leads the way with the passion he gives on the floor every game and practice. He does a great job of setting the tone in practice with his effort and intensity on the floor. We know each and every game that we are going to get Colby’s very best, the team sees that and feeds off of the energy that he provides. I have never coached a player that plays as hard as Colby does every minute on the floor. More importantly than that, Colby is a great kid and currently has a 3.9 GPA with perfect attendance. He is truly a model of what we want as a student athlete in our program. I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Colby as a person and coach him over the past several years.”  Colby said that his “WHY” for playing basketball is “it is fun and I love to compete”.  He says he has a few role models but his #1 is Coach Olson because he teaches many things and always wants the best for everyone.  After high school Colby plans to serve an LDS mission.  His favorite subject in school is History, he loves hamburgers his favorite music is Country and his favorite TV show is the Office.

Hunter Swalberg Wrestling

Hunter is a Senior this year.  He has wrestled for on the wrestling team for 3 years.  Coach Kennington had this to say about Hunter “Hunter has had a season record of 28-1, with his sole loss coming out of state. He went undefeated at both the Syracuse Scuffle (8-0) and Thoman Memorial in Green River, Wyoming (5-0). He also was champion of the Capitol City Classic, and 3rd place at the Christmas Clash. Hunter recently reached his 100th career win, being just the 4th in school history to do so, doing it in just 2 and a half seasons. While he has been excelling on the mat, he has maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA. We are grateful for Hunter and the example he is to Northridge Wrestling and to Northridge High!”  Hunter says that his reason “WHY” for wrestling is “My dad introduced me to the sport when I was young and I have stuck with it ever since”. He says that his role model(s) are his Dad because he has always supported him as well as his coaches because they have taught him how to be a good wrestler along with being a good person.  After high school Hunter plans to serve an LDS mission.  His favorite subject in school is MAP, he love Steak, his favorite musician in Garth Brooks and his favorite movie is Remeber the Titans.

Jalyne Stott Basketball

Jalyne is a Senior this year.  She has been playing basketball for 4 years here at Northridge.  Jalyne says that her “WHY” for playing basketball is “to make new friends and to be a leader”.  Her role models are her brothers because they taught her to play basketball and they played it as well.  After high school she wants to work on owning her own salon for cosmetology.  Her favorite subject is Art.  She likes chicken of any kind.  She loves Justin Bieber’s music.  Her favorite movie is anything with Justin Bieber.

Courtney Eberlan Swimming

Courtney is a Senior this year and a captain of the Swim team.  Courtney said her reason “WHY” for swimming is “I love improving my times plus its a great way to make new friends as well as a great workout.”  Her role model her mom because she is such a strong person and someone she can look up too.  After high school she plans on going into medical school.  Her favorite subject is Science.  Her favorite food is Chicken sandwiches.  Her favorite movie is The Lion King.

Brielle Ercanbrack Drill

Brielle is a Senior and it is her first year on Cardinelle’s.  Coach Belnap had this to say about Brielle “She is one of the hardest working athletes we have on the team this year. She is a first year member as a senior, which can be hard in some cases. This isn’t the case for Brielle. She is a natural, and is always striving to do her very best and trying to excel to her greatest ability! She is always positive in practice and at performances, cheering on the team as they go. Brielle has been such a good example through the thick of our season and is such an asset to this years team!”  Brielle said her reason “WHY” for doing drill is “it was something new plus it has been great for my mental health and its an amazing way to make new friends.”  Her role model is her mom because she has gone through so much this year and come out stronger.  After high school she plans on attending Weber State and go into Dental Hygiene.  Her favorite subject is English and she will eat anything breakfast.
