Northridge Wrestling finished 4th in Region 1, and 11th at state, just outside of the top 10. However, this year’s state tournament was the best since 2006 in regards to how we finished. We ended with 4 state placers; Hunter Swalberg 2nd, Braydon Bare, Ben Brown, and Jacob Rosencrantz finished 6th. Three of our four placers will be returning next year. We sent 9 to state this year with a few falling short of placing; Austin Baker, Bridger Brown, Brigham Hill, Michael Pearce, and Austin Joy.
We want to also congratulate Hunter Swalberg and Jacob Nakayu for achieving Academic All-State!
Something that will stand out with Northridge Wrestling, but may get looked over by others, is the performance by senior Bridger Brown, who qualified all three years at Northridge. As a junior, Bridger was extremely sick at the state tournament, to which he lost two close matches, knocking him out of the tournament. A year later at the state qualifying tournament, Bridger injured his knee in his consolation semi-final match. He ended the match with a fall, then inj. defaulted to 4th. We later learned that Bridger had torn his ACL. He spent the week and a half before state figuring out how to move and stabilize his knee. At the state tournament, Bridger fell just short of placing, falling to a tough kid in the blood round. Though he was very frustrated that his career didn’t finish the way he had hoped, he finished and wrestled extremely hard with so much adversity. We are blessed to be able to have such a great example of toughness for our team. So many people would ask, “Wait, is Bridger really going to wrestle at state with his knee like that?” Because of his toughness, there was never a second thought given.
